Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Camouflage
Cedar Waxwings are beautiful birds
who visit my ancient orchard in every season.
They are of such a colour that they are hidden quite well
even when there are no leaves on the trees.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – The Forest
Their are many treasures to be found on the forest floor.
Mushrooms provide food for forest animals and opportunities for photographers.
Many like the seacoast or take their delight in the mountains.
I like those places too but there is no place I would rather be than the forest.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – The Beach
Whether you want to walk along a sandy shore
Or sit and gaze as it's wonders
A beach to explore is easy to find
on Prince Edward Island.
Imagine you're on a desert island
With permission to explore
You can let yourself go or
Dance like no one is watching.
When our ancestors crawled from the ocean
they happened upon the beach and have since yearned
to return to this edge of the world.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Birds of a Feather
From the family of crows in my back yard
to the herons that fish in the bay behind my house,
I see wonderful groups of birds in every season.
The crows are here all year. I love them most in summer when I can watch them giving lessons to the new fledgelings. I have a special tree where many of the lessons take place. When a session is over, the mother runs over to a nearby strawberry field to get a strawberry for the reward.
These Canada geese in their easily recognizable V formation
have the last rays of the sunset behind them, turning their backs red.
Beautiful herons gather in the bays, some fishing,
others standing together in couples.
Spring wouldn't be spring with out gatherings of birds,
birds of a feather.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Clouds
Clouds can be inconsequential or downright dangerous.
Filling the sky with fluffy floaters and wisps
or with snow, rain, hail or rainbows,
the clouds above us,
along with other factors of course,
control our days.
Each of these shots is from the same viewpoint.
It is right outside my back door.
Each day I open the door and look up at the clouds.
I marvel at their beauty.
My grandmother told me that even as a small child
I had her look up into the sky while I described the clouds to her.
Clouds have been a life-long fascination.
For a little music to accompany your day, here is Joni Mitchell.
She looks at clouds too.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Overlooked
There is so much to see around us. The inner workings of an ecosystem that is facing such big challenges as this earth is, is something we need to examine closely. So many things are overlooked.
Look around you
Get down close
Don't be afraid to get tangled up
Keep your ears open too
Your knees might get dirty but so what.
We see patterns every time we bend down
Leave nothing overlooked.

“Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Distant”
When you live on an island, everything seems distant.
Here on Prince Edward Island we have two ways to leave the island. We have a year round bridge that connects us to New Brunswick. In the summer there is a ferry service that takes us to Nova Scotia, seen in the distance in all these photos. The trip takes an hour and a half including the loading and unloading time.
The ferry ride can be part of the adventure coming to and fro, and is the way of life for an Islander.

“Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Reflections”
Living on an island like I do, you are never far from water
and water is a vital part of having reflections.
Water and sunshine combine to create doubles in our natural world,
doubling our opportunities for enjoyment.

“Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Spring!”
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of spring is the land.
I can dig in my gardens and farmers can at last, get out to their fields.
The bright colours of dandelions, daffodils and tulips are so cherished
after the dull tones of the recently passed winter.
Bees are as happy as we are to feel the warmth of the sun.
We all get down to business!
Spring is a busy time for everyone but it is enjoyed universally for it's promise of new life and growth.
Come on, Spring. Unfurl!

Whether wandering upriver
Along a pond,
Or on the seashore

that calls to me.
